SID begins as someone who is very good at taking care of everyone else and putting their feelings first. When we first meet her she is reeling over a break-up with the first (and second) love of her life at the same time. It’s complicated! Yet, she helps cheer up her AH-MA (Chinese grandmother) who is grieving the death of Sid’s grandfather. Throughout our first season, we’ll see Sid put her emotions second to help JARED, her boyfriend of ten years, come to terms with his growing attraction to men while he finds himself still wanting to be with Sid. Again, it’s complicated! She starts to make some progress when she lets herself fall for BEN, a visiting Rolling Stone journalist, but when she has a chance to help him choose her, she helps him choose his ex, the model ALEXA CHUNG, when Alexa is diagnosed with terminal cancer. At work, Sid does most of the work for her boss at the radio station, but gets none of the credit or gratitude. By the end of season one, Sid will let go of Jared, confess her desire for Ben, and let herself shine at work, even at the expense of her boss.

By the end of season one, Sid will also have a better understanding of how her ethnicity has affected her relationship choices, and an appreciation for her mother and sister and their very different struggles as Asian women.
