Style

The unique fashion/wardrobe of Sex & The City was a big factor in the show becoming iconic and the characters memorable. Our show has that potential, too. Whereas SATC focused on haute couture for NYC, our show has a chance to create iconic looks for a more laid-back West Coast style. Sarah Clary, the stylist to Jenna Lyons who put JCrew on the map, is the perfect stylist to help us create a distinct look for our unique characters. She’s a rising star who, with the exception of Lyons’ HBOMax reality series, has yet to style characters in TV, but is sure to be nabbed to do so soon. Like Patricia Fielding who also hadn’t styled for TV before SATC, Sarah has an effortless way of creating unorthodox styles and is highly collaborative. If we end up with a lead with the potential to be a fashion icon, she, like Sara Jessica Parker, will be beloved for her love of fashion and trend-setting outfits. Like Patricia Fielding collaborated closely with Sara Jessica Parker, I see Sarah Clary doing so with our lead actress. The videos here give a glimpse of how she works.

Our main character Sidney lives and breathes music. Based on her emotions, she will cue most of the songs in our episodes. And, many of our songs will be original covers of popular songs covered by international bands or our cast.

  1. Book of Love by The Magnetic Fields for opening brawl in desert.

  2. I’m on Fire—Original is by Bruce Springsteen. There’s a great cover by Cassandra Violet. I imagine us getting someone like Camille Cabello or an Asian artist to sing it.

  3. The Hour by Valerie June.

  4. Should I Stay or Should I Go by The Clash, covered by female punk rock band, or our actors.

  5. Lola sung by our characters, based on The Kinks live version.

  6. Magic in the Air by Badly Drawn Boy, sung by our characters Sid, Jared, Vee.

Ideas for opening songs.
