NIKHIL begins as someone who is just going along with what American mainstream male culture is doing, like hookups every week via Tinder. Yet he knows the mainstream doesn’t truly embrace him as a Muslim man. Micro-aggressions alternate between irritating him and really getting him down. To the point that sometimes he lets people assume he’s Italian or Latinx because it’s easier. When a hookup starts swiping on Tinder even before getting out of bed with him, he’s had enough and decides to let his mother arrange a traditional Indian marriage. When Nikhil starts an affair with the matchmaker while she’s presenting her daughter and other potential brides, his life becomes even more complicated. In the end, his friendship with Himasa, a fellow Muslim, blossoms into something so much more than he ever intended and he decides to risk their friendship and the wrath of his family for a romantic future with her.
